COMBINE DEMOLITION DERBY

Wednesday - July 23, 2008

Rules and Entry Form

1. The first 20 participants 18 years old and older from Porter County or adjoining countries are eligible.

 

2. Each driver is required to fill out an entry form and provide their own combine prepared in compliance with the rules and safety requirements of the event.

 

3. Derby officials may accept or reject any and all entries.

 

4. All combines will be inspected and approved by derby officials.

 

5. No radio helmet or on-radio communications with the driver during the contest.

 

6. Female drivers may not participate if pregnant.

 

7. Alcohol or drug use is prohibited before, during or after the event and is grounds for immediate rejection.

 

8. No offensive language or pictures will be permitted.

 

9. The decision of the judge and derby officials will be final.

 

10. There is a non-refundable $25.00 entry fee and pit passes are $20.00.

COMBINE UNIT

1. All drive belts are to be disconnected to the threshing unit and grain table.

2. External straw choppers are to be removed.

3. Fuel tanks must be mounted solidly inside the grain tank.

4. All combines must have a cab with seat belts installed.

5. All window glass must be removed from the unit, including all head and tail lights.

6. Cab ladders and unloading augers are to be removed or anything that can come loose or become a safety hazard.

7. Reinforcement plates or shields to protect the transmission drive belts, wheels and tires are not permissible.

8. A bar welded to the front left side of the cab to protect the driver must be installed.

9. A bar welded about 2 feet from the floor of the cab must be installed across the front of the cab for driver protection.

10. No additional weight is to be added to the combine including loose parts and metal carried in the grain tank or the "belly" of the combine or anywhere else on the combine.

11. Tires are to be "stock" and nothing but air is to be used to inflate them. Stock tires are considered those used on the combine during harvest operations on that particular machine, i.e. exceptionally small tires on the rear of the machine are not acceptable.

12. Tires may be bolted to the rims.

13. Rear wheel assist units will not be permitted.

Header Unit

1. Grain tables must be installed on the combine for use in the derby. If torn off, the unit will be disqualified (weld it to the combine). "Chaining" is not an acceptable means of securing the head. Corn heads and row crop heads are not considered grain tables and are not acceptable.

2. Reels are to be removed as well as sickles, guards, and floating cutter bars.

3. The head must be fastened solid to the combine and unable to float up or down.

4. The head must be no lower than 15" or higher than 21" from the bottom of the head to the ground.

5. Hydraulic hoses to the lift cylinders are to be removed. There can be no lift action on the header.

Safety Rules

1. Only the drivers are permitted to ride on the combines during competition and during the pre-event parade.

2. Safety belts and helmets are to be the same quality as used in the auto demolition derby.

3. Drivers are to operate in a responsible and safe manner at all times.

4. Raising or tipping another combine more than 10 inches off of the ground may be grounds for elimination per officials.

5. Deliberate direct hitting to the driver area will be grounds for elimination.

6. Hitting an opponent when they are out of bounds or out of the contest will be grounds for elimination.

7. Time limits are 5 minutes between "start engine" and "make a hit".

 

8. All motion must be halted upon signal from derby officials in case of fire, injury or any other reason deemed necessary by the officials.

9. Proper attire shall be worn by participants-no shorts, tank tops, or muscle shirts.

10. The judge’s decision as to the eligibility of each combine and its operation is FINAL.

11. The derby management committee will determine heat classes per size/capacity of the machines.

                                        12. Combine parts must be cleaned up and removed from the fairgrounds by Thursday July 24th 2008.

Prize Money

1. First place heat winners will win $200 and a plaque.

2. Second place heat winners will win $100 and a plaque.

3. First place finals winners will win $500 and a plaque.

4. Second place finals winners will win $300 and a plaque.

5. Third place finals winners will win $150 and a plaque.

6. Winning competitor in the "best decorated" competition will win $100.
